FAQs

How long is the route?

6k or 10k

What is the terrain?

The majority of the route is on pavement or road, with small sections on grass in the park.

Can I walk in the running category?

Yes, if you need a break during the run, you can walk. However, you cannot enter as walker then run. We need to fairly award the fastest walker, so if you run you will be disqualified from prizes in the walking category.

Will the roads be closed?

We will have a mixture of road closures, and professionally controlled crossing, to keep you safe during the event. Marshalls will direct you.

Can I bring my dog? Or pram?

For everyone’s safety and enjoyment, no dogs or prams are allowed in the race (except for service animals).

Can children enter the race?

Following feedback from 2024, we have introduced categories to ensure all ages can enter the Wainuiomata Hill Run.

  • Under 5’s can join their parents/caregivers in the Buggy Walk.

Can I change categories?

Absolutely. If you change to a category the costs more than the one your originally entered, you will need to pay the difference. If you change to a category that costs less, this difference is non-refundable.

Can I fundraise more for the charity partner, Kokiri Marae Pātaka Kai?

We’re excited to be introducing TEAMS to this year’s Wainuiomata Hill Run.

Perfect for workplaces, gyms, schools and groups of friends!

Get group entry discounts, set group fundraising goals, and engage in a little healthy competition to see who the fastest team will be.
We heard you! Following feedback from last year, we’re thrilled to introduce two new categories to get the whole family involved.

The 6.5k route will now have a buggy option. Chuck the kids in the pram, front pack or on their scooter. This race will start a little later than the others, to give you and the whanau heaps of space for an enjoyable experience. The best part? Under 5s are free with an adult entry.

The Kids’ 1k Dash will be a flat course for 5 to 10 year olds, to test their speed. The course will be totally visible from the start line and have no road crossing, so you can relax and cheer your little ones on.

We’ve also lowered the entry age for the rest of the categories. Kids from 11-13 can enter with an adult companion, and kids from 13 up can run independently.

Entries open March 13th. We are so excited to see you and your whole family at the start line!
